Prof. Yvetta Kajanová, PhD. – musicologist, event manager, journalist. She received a Masters Degree in Musicology from Comenius University, Bratislava in 1986 for her thesis Jazz Music in Television. She subsequently worked as an editor of the journals Rhythm and Slovak Music, and also as a manager of Mondays in Clarissian Church concert series. In 1994 she obtained her Doctorate from Comenius University, Bratislava for her thesis The Comparative Analysis of Genres of Popular Music and Jazz. Since 2012 dr. Kajanova has been a Professor at Comenius University in Bratislava. In 1993 she started teaching Sociology of Music, History of Jazz and Rock Music, Musical Criticism and Music Management at Comenius University. She was the Vice-President of the Slovak Jazz Society from 1995 to 1999 and became a member of the Council of the Slovak Jazz Society in 2000. For twelve years Dr. Kajanová was a press centre manager of The Bratislava Jazz Days international festival where she organized and hosted press conferences with soloists and groups such as Joe Zawinul, Jean Luc Ponty, Michel Petrucciani, Take Six, Betty Carter and others. During 1984 – 2000 she permanently contributed to journals and yearbooks such as Rytmus, Populár, Smena, Sme, Kultúrny život, Hudobný život, Literárny týždenník, Slovenská hudba, Adoramus te, Musicologica Istropolitana, Musicologica Slovaca. Yvetta Kajanová participated in the following International Conferences: The Symposium of Young Musicologists, Bratislava 1988, 1992 and 1994, Die slowakische Musik der Gegenwart, Vienna 1997, Melos – Ethos, Bratislava 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007, Popular Music and School, Prague 1999, Bach 2000 – Music Between Virgin Forest and Knowledge Society, Regensburg, ICCEES – Regional European Congress, Berlin 2007, Jazz Behind the Iron Curtain, Warsaw 2008, Reflection of Popular and Alternative Music in Europe after World War II, Krakow 2009 and Migrating Music: Media, Politics and Style, London 2009. Dr. Kajanová was a member of the International Research Team, Jazz in the Eastern Block in Freie Universität Berlin between 2008 – 2010. She also organized University Workshop on modern popular music and jazz in 1997 and 2009. Between 1997 and 1999 Yvetta Kajanová was a part-time researcher at the Slovak Academy of Science, Institute of Musicology, and later completed her Dissertation work Chapters on Jazz and Rock (Epos, Bratislava 2003). Some of her latest monographs include Gospel Music in Slovakia (Bratislava: Coolart – Lux 2009, 260 pp.), Postmodernism in Music, Minimal Music, Rock, Pop and Jazz (Bratislava: VUK 2010, 200 pp.), To the History of Jazz (Bratislava: CoolArt 2010, 115 pp.) and On the History of Rock Music (Bratislava: CoolArt 2010, 125 pp).
